Blood Pressure VR Nursing Simulation

The learner measures blood pressure manually with a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope: selecting cuff size, positioning the arm at heart level, inflating above the palpated systolic pressure, deflating at 2 to 3 mmHg per second and identifying the Korotkoff sounds.

Learning objectives

By the end of this experience the learner can:

  • Choose the correct cuff size and position it properly.
  • Estimate systolic pressure by palpation before auscultation.
  • Identify Korotkoff phases I and V.
  • Interpret the result and repeat when indicated.

Procedure steps

  1. Seat the patient with the arm supported at heart level.
  2. Wrap the cuff 2 to 3 cm above the antecubital fossa.
  3. Palpate the radial pulse and inflate 30 mmHg above its disappearance.
  4. Place the stethoscope over the brachial artery and deflate slowly.
  5. Record systolic and diastolic values and the arm used.

Assessment

Deflation rate, cuff position and the recorded values are compared with the simulated pressure.

Equipment and setting

Standalone VR headset with hand controllers, full-scale virtual patient and equipment, instructor screen mirroring, Arabic and English interface, offline operation on the campus network.

Blood Pressure FAQ

What educators ask about this scenario.

What will I practise in the Blood Pressure scenario?

The learner measures blood pressure manually with a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope: selecting cuff size, positioning the arm at heart level, inflating above the palpated systolic pressure, deflating at 2 to 3 mmHg per second and identifying the Korotkoff sounds.

How is performance assessed?

Deflation rate, cuff position and the recorded values are compared with the simulated pressure.
